To arrive at an airport that you are not familiar with, after a long flight, can be quite confusing. In this post you will learn how to go from Suvarnabhumi International Airport to downtown Bangkok by taxi, skytrain, bus and van.

Taxis can take you right to your destination, but they may get stuck in traffic. A faster alternative is the skytrain. Other options are buses and vans.


At Suvarnabhumi Airport, you can take taxi on the ground-level floor (1 FL) outside gate 7. Taxi queue ticket is available from the machine, located in front of gate 7. There will be 50 baht extra charge added to the taxi fare, indicated on the meter, plus any toll way fees, if any.

Airport Rail Link

There used to be two lines between Suvarnabhumi Airport and downtown Bangkok, called the Express Line and the City Line. However, as of May 2016 only the City Line is in operation.

The City Line runs between Suvarnabhumi Airport and Phaya Thai Station, which connects to the BTS (skytrain). From Suvarnabhumi Airport, the Airport Rail Link operates daily about every 15 minutes, from 6 a.m. until midnight.

It takes about 30 minutes to travel the full distance. The City Line stops at 6 stations along the way, including Lat Krabang, Ban Thap Chang, Hua Mak, Ramkhamhaeng, Makkasan and Ratchaprarop. The fare ranges from 15-45 baht.

At Suvarnabhumi Airport, the Airport Rail Link station is on the underground floor (B FL). The office is manned during operating hours. The phone number to the Airport Rail Link Call Center is 1690.

Buses From Suvarnabhumi Airport To Bangkok

The Bus Terminal at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, has three bus lines that go to Bangkok:

554 - Rangsit (via Ram Intra)

555 - Rangsit (via Vibhavadi Rangsit Road)

558 - Central Rama II, Big C Rama II (via Bang Na)

The bus fare for these lines is 34 baht, for the full distance. It's a good idea to pay with small bank notes or coins.

Vans From Suvarnabhumi Airport To Bangkok

You can take these white vans at the Bus Terminal, in the airport ground:

549 There are two lines of bus 549, which go to different destinations as listed below

        - Minburi

        - The entrance of Suvarnabhumi Airport known as Pak Tang Suk Saman

550 - The Mall Bangkapi Department Store (via On Nut and Srinakarin)

552 - BTS On Nut

552A - Pak Nam Samut Prakan

554 - Sapan Mai - Lam Luk Ka

555 - Don Muang Airport (via the express way)

559 - Future Park Rangsit (via Khlong Thanyaburi)

The van fare ranges from 20-50 baht.

How To Go To The Bus Terminal

The Bus Terminal in Suvarnabhumi Airport is a 10-15 minute ride from the Passenger Terminal. You can get there by taking the free white shuttle bus, called "Express Route 4-2," from the Passenger Arrival Terminal.

The "Express Route 4-2" bus stop is on the second floor. Exit the Passenger Arrival Terminal through gate 4. Cross the first road and walk up to the second road, without crossing it. The bus stop is located about 50 meters to your left.

Hotel limousines and vans also pick up their passengers on the second floor, between gate 3 and 4.
